Bad news for Chennai even before the start of the IPL! The team’s key opener Devon Conway will have to stay out of the field for the first eight weeks due to a finger injury. He won’t be seen in action for Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team in May.
Conway had been in excellent form in the last two seasons for Chennai. He was the best choice for securing victories, and the absence of such a batter may be felt by Chennai.
It is known that Conway suffered a finger injury in the T20 series against Australia. The New Zealand Cricket Board has announced that surgery will be performed for him there. To undergo surgery, he will have to stay out of the field for eight weeks.
After the injury heals, Conway may not return to the team immediately; he will need some more time. As a result, his presence in the IPL has not been determined yet. In his absence, there is a possibility that Ruturaj Gaikwad or New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra may be considered for the opening position in Chennai.
Rachin Ravindra had opened for India in the One Day World Cup on Indian soil last year. Dhoni can rely on him for this position. From March 22 onwards, the IPL will begin, and in the first match, Chennai will face Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore.
