USA’s entry into the Super 8s of the ICC T20 World Cup represents a major milestone in their cricket journey. At the Mustangs Cricket Academy in Dallas, interest has surged, with enrollment inquiries doubling since the USA’s victory over Pakistan.
Lovkesh Kalia, a coach at the academy, notes a shift in support among the kids, now cheering for the USA over other teams. This change is driven by the impressive performances of players like Saurabh Netravalkar, Monank Patel, and Andries Gous, who have inspired young cricketers across the nation.
Andries Gous, reflecting on the impact, said, “It feels great to see American kids finally have heroes of their own. Many kids I have coached now tell me they want to be like me. We’ve come a long way.”
Monica Sadhu, Vice President of Sponsorships at Major League Cricket (MLC), faced challenges securing sponsorships initially. However, USA’s success has sparked increased interest from brands. Sadhu now foresees better monetization prospects and plans to secure more substantial, long-term deals post-World Cup.
Nitish Kumar, a key player for the USA, emphasized the significance of winning on the big stage, saying, “Winning is the biggest antidote for skeptics questioning the legitimacy of associate teams in World Cups.”
Fast bowler Jessy Singh, who has been part of the team since 2015, expressed his elation at reaching the Super 8s. Despite early struggles and setbacks, Jessy’s perseverance and hard work have paid off, contributing significantly to the team’s success.
With growing support, better sponsorship opportunities, and renewed hope, USA’s journey in the T20 World Cup Super 8s marks a pivotal moment for cricket in the country.
