Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan has received an official reprimand and one demerit point for throwing his bat on the ground during the T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh. This is his first offense within a 24-month period.
Rashid breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.9, which addresses ‘throwing a ball or any other cricket equipment in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during an international match’.
The incident occurred in the final over of Afghanistan’s innings when Rashid threw his bat in frustration after his batting partner, Karim Janat, declined a second run. The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Langton Rusere, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Ahsan Raza. Rashid admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, so no formal hearing was required.
