Nigar Sultana Joty, the captain of Bangladesh’s women’s cricket team, is thrilled about playing in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at home. She hopes many fans will come to support her team.
Joty said it’s a special moment for her team, especially the younger players, to play a World Cup at home. She believes that having home support will be a big advantage for her team.
“It’s a huge moment for us,” said Joty. “Playing a World Cup at home is amazing. It will be a wonderful experience for our young players. I hope many people will come to support us. We are here because of the love and support from Bangladeshis.”
The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in Bangladesh for the second time, after hosting it in 2014.
Joty fondly remembers the 2014 edition, where Bangladesh won their first-ever match in a T20 World Cup, beating Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh’s women’s team has improved a lot since then, with recent wins against Pakistan and India.
Joty believes that the T20 World Cup can help promote women’s cricket in Bangladesh, especially with media coverage and support from fans.
Bangladesh is in Group B of the upcoming T20 World Cup, along with South Africa, England, West Indies, and Scotland. They will start their campaign against Scotland on 3 October in Dhaka.
Joty is excited about playing against West Indies, as they have strong T20 players. She hopes it will be a memorable match.
“We don’t play against them much, so I’m looking forward to it,” said Joty. “They have many good T20 players, so it will be an exciting match.
