Bangladesh vice-captain Taskin Ahmed has acknowledged the impact of senior players Shakib al Hasan and Mahmudullah’s poor form on the team’s performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Bangladesh lost all three matches in the Super 8s, with Shakib scoring 111 runs at a strike rate of 106.73 and Mahmudullah managing 95 runs at a strike rate of 94.05.
“The seniors’ off-form had an effect on the team, but not off the field. We stayed united for 47 days, and everything was fine off the field,” Taskin said. “It’s normal for a team to struggle when key players are not performing well. I am hopeful we can recover and play better soon.”
Taskin expressed disappointment over the losses but highlighted positive aspects, such as the performances of leg spinner Rishad Hossain and pacer Tanzim Shakib. Rishad finished as the joint third-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets, and Tanzim picked 11 wickets, providing crucial breakthroughs.
“We could have done a lot better. We were all quite disappointed with the last match against Afghanistan,” Taskin said. “Tanzim and Rishad are among the tournament’s top wicket-takers. We have some future stars emerging from Bangladesh. It shows we have ability.”
Taskin remains optimistic about Bangladesh’s future in cricket, emphasizing their determination to improve and deliver better performances.
