The worn pitch at Barbados’ Kensington Oval, set to host its fifth match in a week, might impact the pace attacks for Australia and England in their T20 World Cup clash. Marcus Stoinis, who excelled against Oman, believes the tricky surface could play a crucial role.
Stoinis, the star of Australia’s win over Oman, scored 67 not out from 36 balls and took 3-19. He noted that medium pace bowlers like him might fare better on this slow wicket.
“The more pace on the ball, the truer it might play,” said Stoinis. “The pitch wasn’t a shock. It seems slow surfaces will be a theme of the tournament.”
Both teams may need to adjust their lineups. England’s Jofra Archer and Mark Wood are fit, while Australia may consider resting Mitchell Starc due to leg cramps. Pat Cummins might return, but Nathan Ellis impressed with his performance against Oman.
Australian captain Mitch Marsh acknowledged the need to adapt their batting strategy, moving away from expecting high scores. “We’re probably not going to get 200-plus totals,” he said.
Stoinis’ strong World Cup start follows his successful IPL season. He’s ready to handle more bowling responsibilities, especially with Marsh recovering from a hamstring injury. “I love to bowl,” said Stoinis. “I feel like a better player when I’m in the game.”
