Bangladesh Triumph Over Netherlands with All-Round Performance
Bangladesh secured a crucial 25-run victory against the Netherlands, keeping their Super Eight hopes alive in the T20 World Cup match at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown on June 13, 2024.
Shakib Al Hasan shined with the bat, scoring his first T20I fifty in 19 innings. His unbeaten 46-ball 64 helped stabilize the innings, with the team posting 159 for five. Shakib and Tanzid Hasan Tamim added 54 runs in the Powerplay, despite losing two early wickets. Tanzid contributed a quick 35 off 26 balls. Mahmudullah Riyad’s 25 runs also played a key role in the final total.
“It was crucial for someone from the top order to bat through. Happy to contribute. It was tough at the start, but we held our nerves,” said Shakib, who was named Player of the Match.
The Netherlands were well-positioned at 104 for three after 15 overs but faltered thanks to Rishad Hossain’s crucial over. Sybrand Engelbrecht was looking strong until he top-edged a delivery from Rishad, leading to his dismissal. Bas de Leede was then stumped by Liton Das, shifting the game’s momentum.
Mustafizur Rahman bowled brilliantly, delivering 17 dot balls in his four overs, conceding just 12 runs, and taking a wicket. “Rishad and Fizz took the game away from the Netherlands,” Shakib praised his bowlers.
Shakib emphasized the challenge of playing on the unfamiliar Arnos Vale pitch. “We didn’t know what a good score was and had to keep wickets in hand. 160 is always tricky in a World Cup game,” he added.
Bangladesh’s bowlers showcased their skills in the death overs, ensuring the win. They now aim to secure a Super Eight spot with a victory against Nepal in their next match.
