In-form all-rounder Imad Wasim is being urged to rethink his decision to retire from international cricket and make a comeback for this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Imad played a crucial role in helping Islamabad United win their third Pakistan Super League (PSL) title on Monday. The 35-year-old took five wickets to restrict Multan Sultans to 159-9 and later guided the run chase with an unbeaten 19 runs.
This wasn’t the first time Imad shone in the tournament. He made significant contributions in previous matches, taking three wickets against Quetta Gladiators and scoring an unbeaten 59* against Peshawar Zalmi.
His performances have drawn attention, especially with the T20 World Cup coming up in June. Despite retiring from international cricket last November, there’s hope he might reconsider, given his skills and experience.
Pakistan Test captain and Imad’s teammate, Shadab Khan, has reached out to him, emphasizing the need for players like Imad. Shadab believes Imad’s bowling style would be effective in the conditions expected in the USA and the Caribbean.
Imad’s track record includes taking four wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, he was overlooked for the recent tournament in Australia. Despite not playing T20Is since April last year, Imad hasn’t shut the door on a potential comeback, especially if asked by skipper Shaheen Afridi.
Imad expressed his willingness to return if Pakistan needs him, showing his dedication to the team. Although he declined Shaheen’s call after retiring, he’s open to discussions after the PSL.
With his talent and experience, Imad’s reconsideration could strengthen Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
