Gujarat Titans won against Mumbai Indians in a close cricket match on Sunday. Mumbai’s captain, Hardik Pandya, faced defeat after taking over from Rohit Sharma.
Rohit and Dewald Brevis played well for Mumbai, scoring 43 and 46 runs respectively. They built a good partnership, but Gujarat’s bowlers fought back, restricting Mumbai to 162-9.
Many Mumbai fans weren’t happy with Pandya becoming captain instead of Rohit. Pandya used to play under Rohit for Mumbai. Interestingly, Pandya led Gujarat to victory in 2022 at the same stadium where this match was held.
The match took place at the world’s largest cricket stadium, named after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shubman Gill, Gujarat’s captain, enjoyed winning against Pandya’s Mumbai.
Nearly 90,000 fans filled the 132,000 capacity stadium.
Mumbai needed 48 runs from 36 balls with seven wickets left, but they couldn’t make it and lost the match.
Pandya said they believed they could chase the runs, but they lost momentum during the game.
Gujarat’s bowlers did well in the crucial moments, especially in the last overs when dew made it difficult to grip the ball.
Pandya, who recently recovered from an ankle injury, also bowled but couldn’t stop Gujarat from scoring.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai’s star bowler, took three wickets but it wasn’t enough to stop Gujarat’s batting.
In the first match of the day, Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Super Giants by 20 runs. Sanju Samson played a brilliant innings of 82 runs to lead his team to victory.
