Sunrisers Hyderabad set a new record in the IPL by scoring 277 runs for the loss of three wickets, making it the highest total in IPL history. Despite a spirited fight, Mumbai Indians fell short, ending at 246 for five. This match saw a total of 500 runs scored, including a record-breaking 38 sixes.
Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper, Pat Cummins, described the match as “insane” due to the remarkable hitting display. While SRH achieved a massive total, Mumbai Indians managed to keep themselves in the game.
“We never aimed for 270 runs, but we wanted to play positively and aggressively. The wicket was good, so we were prepared to give away a few boundaries,” Cummins said after SRH’s victory.
Mumbai Indians’ captain, Hardik Pandya, acknowledged the outstanding batting performance of SRH, admitting that 277 runs are challenging to defend, regardless of bowling quality.
“The wicket was good, and SRH batted exceptionally well to reach 277. Our bowlers did their best, but it was tough out there,” said Pandya.
With the exception of Jasprit Bumrah, all Mumbai bowlers conceded more than 10 runs per over. Debutant Kwena Maphaka, aged 17, faced a tough challenge, giving away 66 runs in his four overs.
Pandya praised Maphaka’s performance and expressed confidence in his abilities for future matches.
“Kwena Maphaka was impressive in his debut game. Despite the tough situation, he showed confidence in his skills. With more game time, he’ll only get better,” Pandya added.
Despite the loss, Pandya appreciated the efforts of Mumbai Indians’ batsmen, including Tilak, Ro, and Ishan, and expressed optimism for the upcoming matches.
