Today, Mumbai’s Shams Mulani played a significant role, scoring an unbeaten half-century to set a challenging target for Vidarbha. Earlier, Musheer Khan also contributed with a century for Mumbai. Currently, Vidarbha faces a tough task, needing 528 runs to win the Ranji Trophy.
The day began positively for Mumbai, with Musheer Khan and Ajinkya Rahane batting well. However, Rahane was dismissed for 73 runs. Then, Shreyas Iyer joined Khan, and they built a strong partnership. Mumbai scored 125 runs in the first session, losing just one wicket.
In the second session, Iyer played aggressively, while Musheer Khan calmly reached his century. However, Iyer fell short of a century, getting out for 95 runs. Mumbai continued to lose wickets, with Hardik Tamore and Musheer Khan also departing.
Musheer Khan and Ajinkya Rahane started Day 3 on a positive note for Mumbai but the latter was dismissed for 73 by Harsh Dubey Just when Vidarbha were hoping for a miracle, in walked Shreyas Iyer. The right-hander showed no mercy to the hapless Vidarbha bowling unit and raced to his half-century in no time. Young Musheer at the other end was rock solid, thwarting any hopes mustering in the Vidarbha camp. Mumbai scored 125 runs in the first session at the loss of just one wicket. In the second session, Iyer launched a no-holds-barred attack on the Vidarbha spinners. Musheer took his time but reached his second first-class century in style. Just when it was looking like Iyer too would reach a well-deserved century, he was holed out at long-off for 95.
At the end of Day 4, Vidarbha began their innings cautiously, scoring 10 runs without losing any wickets in their pursuit of 538 runs to win. Shams Mulani made a breakthrough by dismissing Taide, giving Mumbai an early advantage.
