Sunrisers Hyderabad announced on Monday that Australia’s Pat Cummins will be the captain for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Cummins, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in the past, is making a comeback to the IPL after sitting out the 2023 season due to a busy international schedule.
The 30-year-old was bought by Hyderabad for $2.46 million in the December player’s auction, briefly holding the record for the most expensive player in IPL history before being surpassed by fellow Australian Mitchell Starc.
Cummins takes over the captaincy from South African Aiden Markram. Hyderabad, who finished at the bottom of the standings in 2023, will kick off their new campaign against Kolkata on March 23.
