Rahul Dravid has announced that the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be his last tournament as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. In a press conference before India’s first match against Ireland in New York, Dravid confirmed he will not reapply for the role, with the BCCI already advertising for a new coach.
“This will be my last tournament as head coach,” Dravid said. “Due to the busy schedules and my current situation, I won’t be reapplying. I have loved coaching India and working with this fantastic team.”
India, led by Dravid, recently defeated Bangladesh at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in a warm-up match for the World Cup.
Dravid praised the team’s performance in recent World Cups, emphasizing their consistency. “We’ve been very consistent in these tournaments. We reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in Australia, played well in the World Test Championship, and had a great run in the 50-over World Cup,” he said.
Despite not winning a knockout game recently, Dravid is hopeful. “The goal is to get into those positions where we have a chance to win. That’s the focus for this World Cup too.”
India’s World Cup journey begins with matches at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA. They will finish their Group A campaign against Canada in Lauderhill, aiming to advance to the knockout stages.
