In the ongoing Sylhet Test, Sri Lanka is in control with a strong lead of 211 runs over Bangladesh after the second day of play.
Sri Lanka batted first after losing the toss and managed to score 280 runs, thanks to great batting performances by Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis, who both scored centuries. Bangladesh’s Khaled Ahmed and debutant Nahid Rana bowled well, each taking three wickets.
Although Sri Lanka struggled initially and lost half of their wickets before lunch on the first day, de Silva and Kamindu’s partnership of 202 runs helped them recover and reach a competitive total of 280 runs.
In response, Bangladesh faced difficulties and could only score 188 runs in their first innings, losing wickets regularly. Taijul Islam was their top scorer with 47 runs, while Litton Das contributed 25. Sri Lanka gained a significant lead of 92 runs.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers, led by Vishwa Fernando with four wickets, along with Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara with three wickets each, kept the pressure on Bangladesh.
By the end of day two, Sri Lanka reached 119 for five in their second innings, extending their lead to 211 runs with five wickets still in hand. Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne played a crucial innings, scoring a half-century.
Nahid Rana stood out for Bangladesh with two important wickets, dismissing Nishan Madushka and Kusal Mendis, both caught behind. Shoriful Islam, Taijul, and Mehdiy Hasan Miraz also contributed with one wicket each.
